Prenatal Yoga classes
For some women, their first experience with yoga is prenatal yoga. Others join group prenatal classes even though they’ve had a serious yoga practice for many years. These classes cater to every women and are kept at very small numbers so individual students can have the attention they need. We are not just in this class to relax, although relaxation and stress management are very important, we will also build strength, stamina and concentration. We do not necessarily get the change to go as in depth as the Couple’s Birth Workshop, but there are similar elements interspersed throughout the prenatal series. Women are encouraged to do prenatal yoga as soon as their ready to get started until they no longer feel it’s right for them. Some women come to prenatal yoga classes until well after their due dates!
Jenny currently teaches Prenatal Yoga Wednesday 7:45 PM at Happy Tree Yoga and Tuesday6:30PM at Naada Yoga.
Mom and Baby Yoga
These classes are fun and we usually keep them on the lighthearted side. When studying Yoga Therapeutics, Jenny chose to do her case study project on Diastasis Recti (ab separation). In working with eight women with DR over the course of the 300 hour training, she came to have a very good understanding of this common condition (she has one herself!) She is especially aware of DR in her Mom and Baby classes, and helps women reinforce and strengthen their core regardless of whether there is a separation or not. Getting “back” in shape after baby is a focus of Mom and Baby Yoga, but it is not the be all and end all. We are here to stretch, breathe, laugh, socialize and spend time with our babies. No previous yoga experience necessary!
Jenny teaches a regular Mom and Baby class Wednesday AM 10:30 at Happy Tree Yoga and 12pm at Viveka, as well as Yoga Portage at Espace Shanti Tuesdays at 9:30 and brand new classes at Naada. Check studio websites for details.
Yoga Portage (Babywearing Yoga)
Whether you’re a seasoned babywearer or someone looking to learn a little more about using a baby carrier or wrap, a Yoga Portage class is a great place to do it. Learn about safe babywearing, test and use a variety of ergonomic carriers and learn which type is the best for you and your baby. We spend time in each class doing postures that you can do while baby is cozy in the carrier that you can also do at home. We also do stretches and yoga postures that are crucial for mamas who spend much of their days with babies in carriers. The entire class is not necessarily done with the baby in the carrier. Moms are expected to tend to any of baby’s needs and we follow the rhythm of the babies. Throughout the session we will do some baby massage, learn mantras and help baby learn yoga postures of her own. Jenny has created her own brand, Yoga Portage, which has allowed her to expose many new moms to the art of babywearing. She runs weekly classes at Espace Shanti in St Henri, and workshops in Quebec and Ontario.
Bébé est en portage une partie du cours, dans un porte-bébé ou dans une écharpe. Il peut parfois s’assoupir sur maman pendant qu’elle exécute quelques postures de Yoga pour se remettre en forme tout en douceur!
Jenny teaches a regular Hatha-Yin class Thursday, 10am at Viveka, and a Yoga Fluide at Espace Shanti 12pm on Tuesdays, and a dynamic Hatha Flow class at Happy Tree Yoga on Wednesdays. Check with studios for more details.
Children’s Yoga classes
Jenny is a RCY certified teacher who absolutely adores teaching children. She does yoga every day with her own two kids. She believes that kids are natural-born yogis and that it’s our job as adults to help them stay in the practice. Jenny’s classes are fun and entertaining, but children also become exposed to the more subtle yogic teachings. Yoga Mini Mantra classes help nurture strength, confidence and perseverance as well as love and self-acceptance. Classes can be with or without parents, depending on the age and wishes of the parents and children. If parents are included in the class, it becomes a very rich bonding experience!
Jenny Teaches 4-6 year olds Friday 4pm at Naada Yoga.
